weekly music roundup june 16

Ok the big one this week is gonna be JOYFEST

I get that a roadtrip to Chicago is a minorly big ask, and hotels are weirdly expensive that weekend. On the other hand this show is gonna fuck intensely. Make it happen if you can. Not much more I can say on this one beyond emphatic enthusaism. Frotted is wild, they do little abusive vignettes whenever they switch who’s on drums and who’s on guitar (like, several times in a set). Basically go to this one or you’re gonna be hearing about it all the rest of the summer. In non-joyfest news:

June 18, Surly Grrly at Morts!

This is probably gonna be good. Drag can be hit or miss for me but I’d give Surly Grrly the benefit of the doubt here. And Mortimers is just a kinda cool venue, I love any place with a secret second bar for the show area. I likely won’t be here, but I’ll be with yall in spirit. :)

July 20 Mary Jam EP Release

If you can’t see Doll Chaser in Chicago this week and are worried you’re going to forget what they sound like, they’re playing the day before because they’re some of the hardest working women in showbiz. The event is at Cloudland (a really sweet venue with a gorgeous little patio thing in the back). I haven’t heard the other bands on the lineup but my usual rule of thumb is “if a band is having an album release show, they’re gonna blow you out of the water”. Something about having a night to celebrate their hard work and how many people love them seems to impart some Pentecostal “tongues of flame” type shit and they play their absolute fingers off on stage. Long story short I bet Mary Jam is probably gonna be a pretty good time. I will likely show up if I haven’t procrastinated my road trip prep till the fucking night before like a moron

LAST WEEK ROUNDUP

Uh, lighter week of shows this last time. We went to the Green Room show! It was as expected, Sammy killllled and J-Mo was fucking unbelievable. Make yourself a deal and try and catch him and his J-Lighters, they have an amazing stage energy and every single member of the band jams insanely hard.

Otherwise… I watched House on Wednesday, which was weird in a really good way (but occasionally a very uncomfy way) . Thursday was a day of silly decadence previously described. Friday we got word that our Saturday plans were shot so we got to not do the prep we were procrastinating. Saturday many new plans fell into place and I got strung up from the ceiling by that fetching little chain necklace I like (don’t worry I got down mostly unharmed), and Sunday I took a very cute picture of myself that you will look at now.

See you at the shows! Love you all lots :3
