weekly music roundup july 7

Ok. I’m going to keep this short and sweet because I kinda wanna do longer writeups for the last week stuff and I want to maybe do some other writing about general vibe stuff I’ve been feeling lately. This is gonna be all business. Let’s get into it.

JULY 9 and 11

You actually have two shots to see the always incredible J-Mo this week. July 9th he’ll be at Silverwood Park for an all ages show at 630 (again cannot stress enough how well suited he is to a summer outdoor show, something about 50s rockabilly makes me want to like sit on a picnic blanket or something), and July 11th he’ll be at the Acadia (which is a really gorgeous venue that feels timeless in a really fun way). If you haven’t seen him yet you owe it to yourself, the energy is off the charts. I also owe J-Mo an apology, him and the J-Lighters put on an amazing show this last Saturday at Shaw’s that I completely spaced on telling everyone about. I sent one of my partners to it, and he’ll maybe write a little exclusive about it but by all accounts a really phenomenal evening of music!!!

ALSO JULY 9

Slightly bigger name than I usually go for this blog, but my sister is a huge Ezra Furman fan so I’m going to this show at the Amsterdam. Tickets are only like 25 bucks so definitely not out of reach. Come say hi, the Amsterdam has really good french fries.

THURSDAY JULY 10

Stomach Book’s Stummy Summer tour has a show at the Seward Cafe. I H8 It Here is really good, I don’t know many of the other bands playing, but Queer Ritual is vouching for it and I trust them deeply and implicitly, and basically any show at Seward is good for the soul. This is the raw stuff folks.

FRIDAY JULY 11

Nothing but good news here. Anita Velveeta is someone I haven’t seen yet and I consider it a profound moral failing, she’s pretty essential viewing from what I understand, so I’m pretty excited to finally check that box. The band I’m very excited about is of course Melpomene (that’s mel-pah-muh-nee if you’re curious). I’ve seen them twice and have been deeply and profoundly moved both times. They are loud. They want you to crowdkill at their shows. You don’t actually need to crowdkill. And also the show is at Pillar which is a very chill place so like… it’s probably gonna be chill. What I’m saying is go to this show. Please. I’ll probably be there and you can ask me for a hug and I’ll hug you.

JULY 12

I’m praying to all that is holy that Watches is towards the end of this set, because I have a pool party I’m going to from like 12-7 so I’m going to be all wrung out and heat exhaustioned but I’m not missing a fucking watches show at this current point in my life. Please come give me a glass of water. Anyways, Selfish Teammate is great, I’m sure the other bands are great, the Eagles 34 is a venue I’m going to be spending more and more time at this summer (more to come on that). But truly I cannot overhype Watches, you need to see them as many times as possible, they are astonishingly shockingly good.

Also JULY 12

This is an obvious sign that I’m being punished for my hubris. I’ll be skipping a Doll Chaser show, at 7th Street, because there’s just too much good shit going on in my life. BOOBLESS is also a really good vibe. Basically this show is going to be perfect, and the only problem with it is there’s a Watches show that same night. If you aren’t going to the eagles 34 for whatever reason, this show is going to be an absolute killer.

Like I said, I think I’m gonna do the last week write up in a different post, but holy fucking shit go to some of these shows, shit has been so transcendent these last few weeks.

If you see me out and about, come say hi I’m very friendly.
