weekly music roundup August 12
Maybe I should just decide this is a tuesday blog. I’m struggling to hit these mondays, I’m telling you. Doesn’t hurt that I had a pretty fucking insane one last weekend. I dunno, I’ll probably write a bit about it at some point. BUT we’re here for music right now
AUGUST 12 (tonight, I know, I’m sorry)
Unfortunately you’ll need to choose where you’re spending your time because the theme of the week is DOUBLE BOOKED EVENINGS. Will you go to Eagles 34 to catch Fend? Or will you head to 331 to catch Laura Hugo and say hi to Debbie (seriously if debbie is there you should say hi she’s so cool)? No bad options (except staying home and feeling sorry for yourself, that one always sucks). I won’t be at either of these, I’m going to be getting high and learning about the history of punk music at the feet of a wise mentor figure, but that’s not staying home feeling sorry for myself so I’m still winning.
August 13
I don’t even remember how I heard about this. I don’t think I’ve seen any of these bands before? But I’m kinda trying to get into noise more. I dunno, I think this will be a chill one. Tracking down an address for this one, feel free to dm me and I’ll probably have it for u by then. :)
AUGUST 14
No shows but I’m playing dnd with some guys I haven’t seen in a while and one of them is like vaguely antivax/listens to Joe Rogan and I’m horrified we’re going to talk about politics and I’m gonna yell at him. Send me your energy
AUGUST 15
Double booked evening rears its ugly head again. At 331 we’re celebrating Debbie’s birthday (she got to book the bands at her favorite bar for her birthday because everyone loves her). I’m gonna be at this one. BUT ALSO at Pillar Forum, you could see CHEMSEXX (see earlier comments about their brilliant drummer) and the always amazing Anita Velveeta. This will be a good show for moshing (even though the sweet mosh angel has gone home).
AUGUST 16
Did I say Double Booked Evenings? This one is triple booked cuz fuck you. Magenta Vice plays music that sounds like a 2000s shooter soundtrack became part of a John Wick movie, and they dress tuff as hell. No idea what Zen Arcade is like as a venue. This show is gonna be chill vibes.
Snakeworld has been better than ever, Kyrie Nova and the Defiant never disappoint, and Jenny Matrix is good as hell (I’ve seen them once but they were rad). The punk bowling shows are a really fun vibe (THEY PLAY MUSIC! RIGHT ON THE LANES), you should go to at least one.
And WTF Fest… well… this one is gonna fuck out loud pretty obviously. I’ve seen I think every band on the lineup except Crypt ID, but given the company they're probably also excellent. This is your Watches show of the week, in case you were hankering. Palmers is a great venue (don’t get too attached). This is gonna be killer.
You should go to one of these. Please go to one of these shows. Oh but Fe which one are you going to I have a kink party I mod for that night, so I’m unable to go to ANY of them. Go to one and tell me how cool it was so I can have fomo.
AUGUST 17
DOGPARK SHOW with some narsty digital noise. Go see Pico and tell her she did a really good job cuz she’s probably gonna do a really good job. Think like hyperpop and digital hardcore and djing and stuff.
Ok that’s music. Stay tuned for other writings I hope, I had some Experiences.
