Back from the dead
First, the music:
Tuesday Jan 6! White Squirrel is a tiny cute bar, show up early if you want a seat. Real Big Quilt is the group I’m recommending, they’re a drums/guitar and vocals duo. I only heard Winnie (? I think?), the guitar and vocals half, but she was phenomenal. I can only imagine they’re even better with both of em.
Friday Jan 9! DOG GAMN is outstanding. Go see them. They are bizarre and very good. You will not regret.
Saturday Jan 10! Laura Hugo and Emmy Woods are two of my absolute folk vocalists. The Cedar is a really nice venue. I’m out of town so I won’t be at this one but like, this is absolutely my recommendation this month for a Romantic Evening. Get dinner somewhere cute, go see these incredible people sing their fucking hearts out, go home and cuddle or you know, other activity. If you’ve been dragging your feet on asking someone out, this is your opportunity.
Friday Jan 16! 12th House Sun and Fend! Shoegaze is alive and well. If you like chill tones, check these two out. 7th St is a really fun mix between a professional venue and a small venue.
Also Friday Jan 16! Iowethislandabody are loud and mean and tuff. Bring ur fucking earplugs and clothes to move in.
Saturday Jan 17! One Big Quilt and Jenny Matrix, at one of my personal fave venues. I’m not sure who Ashley but like, hey lets help her out!
Also Saturday Jan 17! Another Heaven is dope. These other bands are probably also dope. I will always love Hook and Ladder because my first amazing show was there. Hell yeah.
Also Also Jan 17! Mary Jam is amazing. Perfectly polished sound, amazing stage presence. They’re an absolute fucking blast. If you haven’t seen them yet you should.
Sunday Jan 18! Doll Chaser at SZN 2. I probably don’t need to say more than that. It’s gonna be a good night. If you know me and I trust you, you can message me anywhere you have me for an address. If you don’t pass the vibe check I will politely let you know. We’re just keeping the addy a little lower key for this venue going forward.
Friday Jan 23! full catholic is GOOD. This show is a fundraiser for Gaza. I’m guessing the other bands will rip. Get after it
Saturday Jan 31! Desolation Plains played at the one dungeon synth show I’ve been to so far, and they were amazing. I want badly to go to more dungeon synth shows. It’s probably gonna be rad.
ok, the rest of the writing.
I don’t really have like, a big excuse for dropping off. I got pretty massively depressed halfway through october thru like all of november. Some of the most suicidal I’ve felt in a while. And then I felt embarrassed about you know. Failing to do the blog.
When I was growing up the first job I really thought I might have was “Writer” and it was like the first big dream I gave up on when I was in college and realizing that if I was going to be a writer, I would be… you know, writing. And I wasn’t. I think I liked the idea of being a writer more than I liked actually doing it. This blog eventually failing felt inevitable. Still does, really. I’m doing it for like, 4 friends at this point lol. It’s good to keep the muscles loose I suppose. But I’ve just been like, waiting for when I give up and get bored like I do with all my endeavors. I dunno. It’s back from the dead, for now. It’ll run out of steam again later. Sorry I’m full of weird feelings about it.
In other news, when I came home from family thanksgiving, I was possessed by a weird horny demon so I wrote a 34k word porn novella. If you’re the one family member reading this, don’t look into it. But for anyone else who knows me and wants insight into the way I think about horny shit, it’s all up on AO3. Give it a read and a comment. It’s been broken into nice small chapters with some content warnings. It’s mean and like, really only written for me, I definitely sacrificed some universal appeal, so if it’s not your bag no worries.
