Weekly music roundup June 9

Ok, finally running with this. The smallest idea is a weekly blog talking about upcoming shows in the next week that I think are gonna fuck and then talking about the shows I went to the previous week and how they fucked. Starting out small and achievable. First things first, shows this week!

Tonight! June 10! New band night at the Green Room!

I’ve seen Sammy Jean Cohen a ton of times and she never disappoints. One of the friendliest people in the biz, too! Kenny saw J-Mo and was massively impressed, so I think this show is gonna rule. Haven’t been to the Green Room but I’m always excited to check out a venue I haven’t seen before!

June 11! Country Queers Make Do at the Turf Club

I’m sure everyone here is going to be amazing, but the only person I’ve heard on here before is Emmy Woods. That said, she’s completely worth the trip out on her own. One of the most amazing voices I’ve ever heard, it’s always such a treat to watch the whole bar fall in love with her over the course of a set. I’m unfortunately not making this, because my t4t goth4goth lesbian crush has a horror movie night some wednesdays and so I’ll be making puppy eyes at her all night, but this is going to be another fucking great one. Haven’t actually gotten to the Turf Club yet (I know, I’m still very new) but from everything I’ve heard it’s lovely.

ALSO JUNE 11!

Surly Grrly’s pride month residency at Mortimers continues, and they’re gonna have Doll Chaser with them. Doll Chaser will forever have my heart, please go see them if you haven’t, they’re one of the reasons I’m going to all these damn shows.

June 14! SEWARD CAFE Show

Ok I don’t know any of these bands but I love the Seward Cafe as a venue. I have a pool party earlier in the day and then I’m going to my dad’s for fathers day, so probably not going to be at this one either -_- but basically any show at Seward is a recommend for me, really amazing intimate space and a great outdoor area to smoke between sets :3

LAST WEEK SHOW ROUNDUP:

The big one was the Dog Gamn album release at Palmers. Wonderful venue, six of the most amazing bands, half outside in perfect (once the rain stopped) weather and half inside. Everyone was amazing (DIN DIN WAS SO FUCKING GOOD YALL???) to the point where like… if you see any of these bands are going to be at a show go to that fucking show. But the standout, as always, no contest, was WATCHES. See them as soon as you can, as many times as possible, bring all your friends.

I had cultivated a perfect dose of chemicals for a spiritual evening (6 glasses of Hamms or Sociable, a gin and tonic, a joint, an edible, a small amount of mushrooms, and 8 hotdogs over the course of the evening) and some recent friends followed our recommendations and showed up to hang out with us, so really the night was basically perfect. Emmy Woods on Sunday at 331 was lovely as always, and the first show of Surly Grrly’s pride month residency at Mortimers was a great night at a lovely venue (side note, Prairie Clamor was one of the strangest bands I’ve probably ever seen and I’m so hungry for more; matching jerseys, a laser light show, and a little 45 second jingle in the middle of their set talking about how good the kitchen is at mortimers and how it closes at 11??? Utterly enchanting).

Anyhoo, I think that’s all I got for you this week. Say hi if you see me out and about, I’m the slutty one with the short green hair. Love you all!
